The Do’s And Do Not’s of Worship
Okay, boys and girls.
I’ve been getting a lot of asks that are pertaining to essentially the same thing, so I’m going to try to answer most of your questions here in this single post.
A lot of you are asking me:
- What are some things I should do for (fill in the deity)?
- What are some of the things that I should avoid when I (fill in a certain thing here)?
- What are some things that (specific God or goddess) will like?
To kind of provide a blanket-answer to these questions, let me first explain my beliefs on the subjects.
DO:
- Conduct research on the specific deities that you’re trying to connect with. (For example, if you’re trying to connect with Skadi, you’ll find she’s the goddess of the hunt and snow, so she may like things that are pertaining to that.)
- Once you’ve done your research, follow your instinct. (If you see something that reminds you of a specific deity, boom! Add it to your altar, make it into a necklace, whatever you want to do.)
- Make your practice YOUR practice. (No two people are going to worship their gods in the same way.)
DO NOT:
- Let other people tell you how to worship your gods.
- Feel like you have to spend a ton of money on your altar or on your offerings.
- Feel bad because you feel your offerings are inadequate or “not enough”.(Magic and offerings are all about intent.)
Going along with this theme, there are many people who disagree with this sort of thinking. Some people believe that there are certain ways that you should worship and things that you should avoid.
Remember: That is THEIR practice and YOURS can be completely different.
Again, this is just the way that I see things. I believe that since this religion is so ancient, there’s really no concrete way of knowing how to worship these deities. Nor should there be any right or wrong way.
Just do you, do what feels right, do what connects you to your gods, and don’t worry about the rest.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
